The Smithsonian Institution Expands Insight’s Role in Developing
its Best-in-Class Digital Asset Management System.

Insight Systems, Inc., a leading provider of custom software solutions, has been contracted by the Smithsonian Institution to assist in the development of a new system which will ultimately offer new robust digital asset management functionality including: automatic synchronization of object metadata, historical data integrity, easier to use data collection process, and more advanced security. The new contract expands Insight’s presence in supporting critical functions within the Smithsonian.

Insight will be supporting the Smithsonian Institution, whose holdings equate to 136.9 million objects. The Smithsonian Institution is a trust instrumentality of the United States founded in 1846 as “an Establishment for the increase and diffusion of knowledge.” In the 150+ years since that time the Smithsonian has grown to include 18 museums, the National Zoological Park, and 9 research centers located in Washington, DC and its metropolitan area, New York City, Cambridge, MA, Fort Pierce, FL, and Panama. The Smithsonian employs approximately 6,500 staff, has over 140 million collection objects, and in 2006, hosted over 25 million visitors at its core museum locations and 150 million visitors to its public websites.
